We have 2 main climbing areas.
Bouldering
Bouldering is rock climbing close to the ground without the need for a rope or harness. All you need is a pair of climbing shoes, some chalk, and a big foam crash pad. Our tallest walls are 4.5 meters high.
Top Rope/Lead
Top rope climbing requires a rope, a harness and someone to belay you. Our rope walls are 6-8 meters high. We only allow roped climbing during classes, if you are being belayed by a staff member, or if you have passed belay a certification test.
Difficulty Grading
At Bean Cow, we use a unified circuit grading system of “spiciness” to indicate the difficulty of both our bouldering problems and climbing routes. All of our climbs are clearly marked with their difficulty level.
To start off, we have climbs that are “mai ped” - 🍚, which are fun, easy climbs that anyone can enjoy. From there, we have climbs ranging from “ped noy” - 🌶️ all the way up to “ped mak mak” - 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.
If you are a beginner, we recommend starting with 🍚 climbs, and maybe trying a few 🌶️ climbs if you’re looking for a bit of a challenge.
For experienced climbers, we recommend consulting one of the charts we have posted around the gym to determine the level of spiciness that corresponds to the grades you normally climb. While climbing ratings are subjective and depend a lot on your climbing style and body type, feel free to let us know if you think the grade on a particular climb should be revised.
Route setting
We love having new routes to climb, and we know you do too. We reset a section of our walls every week, so that the whole gym is reset every 6 weeks. We try to have a range of difficulties on each section of wall, so that everyone from beginners to advanced climbers has something new to try with each reset.
If you love or hate a particular climb, we want to hear about it! Our routesetters are always welcoming of constructive feedback on how to make our climbs better - for you!
