In the wake of a pandemic, an existential crisis due to climate change, and the disconnected nature of our society made worse by covid and social media, I have found myself yearning for a way to both create community and give back to our community. It seems to me that the best moments in life are those shared with family and friends, and yet we’ve spent the last couple years isolated.
Thailand is an amazing country, but it tends to lack in social services like public spaces for kids and adults, playgrounds, libraries, and recreational centers. Rock climbing gyms can offer those services, but climbing in Thailand is still a burgeoning sport or viewed as only something for high income people to do.
My gym is inspired by my experiences climbing in the intimate, old-school climbing gyms in the US as well as the multi-purpose recreation centers that many cities offer as a low-cost public resource. My aim is to create a climbing gym and community center that is inclusive, family-friendly, and provides a space to be active, meet people, gather with friends, eat, and work. While we won’t have the tallest or most high-tech walls in Thailand, our goal is to maximize our space for fun climbing and areas to socialize.
Our values - climbing, community, giving, & sustainability
My vision is a climbing gym built to be a resource for and to support a local, diverse, real community of people through the following ways:
Provide an affordable opportunity to learn a new skill, improve climbing skills, and improve fitness and strength through alternative exercise
Provide an open and inclusive gathering space for the community and facilitate the meeting of like-minded people
Provide a space and framework to give back to the community through healthy, low-cost activity and charitable donations.
Use and promote sustainable practices wherever possible in our business and lead by example through low-waste and low-carbon initiatives.
I hope you join us.
