After 1-2 weeks, Bean Cow staff reserve the right to change the level for any participants that appear to be inappropriately graded.

  6. The winning team, top female, and top male will receive prizes at the end of 4 weeks, and we will have a grand finale party! (If the winning team and individuals are the same, the next highest individuals will receive prizes) You do not need to attend the party to win, but that is when we will announce winners and give out the prizes, plus it’s more fun to climb with others!

League Rules

  1. Scores are determined by the 3 hardest problems you complete each week. Participants have 4 weeks to achieve maximum points.

  2. You must have another competitor or staff member see you complete the climb (see bouldering rules below).

  3. Weeks 1-3 run Tuesday at 1pm until 7pm on Sunday. You are welcome to climb on any day and don’t have to compete on the same day as your team mate. Week 4 , all teams will compete on the same night, Sunday , starting at 17:30, unless you cannot make it that night.

  4. If you can’t make it a certain week then you can make up your points another week, however, you still cannot double count any routes (see rule #6).

  5. Points are awarded based on our handicap system.

  6. A route can only be counted once per competition.

  7. Team scores are determined by adding each member’s scores together.

  8. Weekly scores will be updated on the official scoreboard Sunday evening. Team scores for the season are the combined season totals for each team member.

  9. Bonus points may be earned by completing a problem above your division. However, you may only receive 2 bonuses. (Ex. A 3 chili climber may only count 2 6 chili problems in their top 10)

  10. Prizes will be awarded for team with the most points at the end of the season. The last Sunday of the season will also be a fun climbing party!

Normal bouldering comp rules apply:

  1. Points are earned by completing a problem from start to finish (must match and control final hold). If you miss the box, you didn’t finish the problem.

  2. No “flying starts.” You must control the start hold before moving to the next hold.

  3. Volumes and outside corners are on.

  4. If you use a hold or feature that is off-route, no points will be earned.

  5. In order to count, your sends must be witnessed by another competitor or a staff member.

  6. Be respectful of your fellow competitors and cheer each other on.

Handicap System

The point of Bouldering League is to improve, push yourself and meet new people. We want everyone to have the chance to win if they really push themselves and train hard, so we’re using a scoring system that puts all climbers on an even playing field and rewards progress. Climbers decide for themselves the level at which they climb and points are awarded for each problem based on the points chart. Climbing levels are based on Bean Cow’s chili rating system you climb comfortably at and are shown in red below.

A handicap is your hardest grade that is consistently climbed during a regular session.

 Grades/Points

Level 1            rice       2    3

Level 2          rice 1    2     3     4

Level 3          1    2     3     4     5

Level 4          2     3         5     6

Level 5          3     4     5     6

Points awarded   5       10     15     20     25

Climbing any problem above your division earns you 30 points. However, this only counts twice during the season. Climbing any problem below your division earns you no points. Lastly, don’t sandbag. Sandbagging is lame.
